Maria Wong has served as the artistic advisor for the Hong Kong Clarinet Festival since 2016. On August 4, 2025, she gathered 488 Hong Kong clarinetists and the renowned French clarinet group Les Bons Becs to break a new Guinness World Record for the Largest Clarinet Ensemble. As the National Chairperson (Hong Kong) for the International Clarinet Association, she continues to contribute to the clarinet community. Maria Wong Ka Yee entered the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts on a scholarship in 1987, where she received the Advanced Diploma and Professional Diploma with High Distinction. Her clarinet teachers included Li Zirong, Zhang Hong Martin Choy, and Bernard Parish. In 1992, she was awarded a scholarship to attend the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she earned a Bachelor of Music and studied with Mr. David Neuman of the San Francisco Symphony. Since 1995, Maria Wong has been teaching on the faculty of the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts, the University of Hong Kong, and the Hong Kong Institute of Education. As both a performer and teacher, she has been very active. Miss Wong’s students have won international clarinet competitions and secured clarinet positions in overseas orchestras. Additionally, she has been teaching at the MusicAlp International Summer Academy in France since 2019.
