Wang Tao, One of the most famous clarinetist in China, born in Chengdu, Sichuan Province, is the Professor and the Doctoral’s supervisor at Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM), Beijing, founder of Beyond·Joviality·Music, a Yamaha artist of 2018, a promotion ambassador of G. Henle Verlag, jury president of China National Clarinet Competition. Tao started performing on stage from nine years old. He has held recitals in different countries and areas, including mainland China, the United States, France, Austria, Japan, Hong Kong and Taiwan etc., and performed with China Philharmonic Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Hangzhou Philharmonic, China Youth Symphony Orchestra, Harbin Symphony Orchestra, Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra, Central Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Philharmonic and so on. Tao has been a prize winner in many prestigious international competitions, such as the First prize winner of 2nd China National Youth Clarinet Competition, and was praised as ‘the enthusiastic, charming, first-class and unique performer’. So far, Tao has released more than 10 albums, gave a crossover performance of various music style, and won numerous Musical Awards. During study period, Tao followed the best clarinetists of the nation, including Prof. Xiang Zhenlong, Prof. Yu Bo, Prof. Zhang Wu and Prof. Tao Chunxiao. In 2009, Tao was awarded full scholarship by the Italian Government. In 2010, he further studied in the London Royal Academy of Music under clarinetist Michael Collins. In 2011, Tao was invited as senior visiting scholar to New England Conservatory, Boston, learning with Richard Stolzman. Tao was also invited by Stolzman as guest performer to tour with him in Japan.

Wang Tao was awarded the title of honorary citizen of Senna, France, on the special day of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and France. Tao was invited to play with Daniel Hope and Zurich Chamber Orchestra at DG120 years’ anniversary celebration. Tao was also invited to speak at the Boao forum for Asia as youth leader and was received by the Chinese Premiere Li Keqiang.

Tao has won Best Instrumental Album at the 18th Golden Melody Award for his crossover album. In 2016, as a first Chinese clarinetist under the DG label, Tao’s first classical recital album “Schubert” was released on the legendary yellow label. Up to now, “Schubert” has more than 100 million hits on new-media and digital platform. Since 2016, he has held nearly a hundred recitals and was highly praised by audiences.

Wang Tao is the founder of Cloud and Quartet, Ange Quartet, and working with a number of well-known musicians together to promote and spread chamber music. Besides the identity of today’s most popular clarinet performer in China, Tao is versatile with artistic prowess in different professions and domains: he has published novels, host radio shows, distribution of teaching materials, created a variety of artistic performance forms etc. Now he is an exclusive artist of UMG. In August 2018, Tao released “Spin”, his 2nd album of DG. Tao’s social platform has made a breakthrough in millions and has become the first clarinetist to have a million followers in the world. Tao was jury of two programs in CCTV: China instrumental TV Competition and I want to appear on the stage of Spring Festival Gala.
