Huang Yichuan, a young clarinetist, he is currently a graduate student at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music, studying under Associate Professor He Yemo, a clarinetist.

Born into a musical family, he began learning the piano from his mother at an early age and started studying the clarinet at the age of 11. His enlightenment teacher was Zhang Tingkai from the Orchestral Department of Sichuan Conservatory of Music. During his time at the affiliated middle school, he studied under Zhang Wenkun from the Orchestral Department of Sichuan Conservatory of Music. At the age of 15, he gave a solo performance of Weber’s Clarinet Concerto No. 1, Op. 73 at the Grand Concert Hall of Sichuan Conservatory of Music, and at the age of 16, he served as the principal clarinetist of the Symphony Orchestra of the Affiliated Middle School of Sichuan Conservatory of Music.

He currently serves as the principal clarinetist of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Symphony Orchestra. He once served as the principal clarinetist of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Symphonic Wind Orchestra and the principal clarinetist of the Shanghai Conservatory of Music Baroque Orchestra. He has participated in numerous performances, such as the opening ceremony of the 37th “Shanghai Spring” International Music Festival – “Splendid China” Famous Artists and Famous Music Concert, “The Song of the Earth” – Concert Commemorating the 110th Anniversary of Mahler’s Death, the opera “La Traviata” by Shanghai Conservatory of Music, and the 98th Anniversary Celebration of Shanghai Conservatory of Music.

He has participated in major domestic and international competitions such as the Belgrade International Clarinet Competition in Serbia, the Salzburg International Music Competition, and the 2nd and 3rd Buffet Cups, and has achieved good results. In 2024, he was invited to cooperate with the Liangshan Symphony Orchestra to perform Mozart’s Clarinet Concerto in A Major, which was highly praised. In 2025, he was invited to cooperate with the orchestra again and successfully performed works such as Finzi’s Clarinet Concerto.

His performance is calm and rigorous yet vivid, with a pure tone and a strong sense of proportion in grasping musical styles, making him a rare performance-oriented talent. The clarinet tone he plays can almost blend into other instruments without a trace and set off the resonance of texture, tone and harmony.
