Da Hongyu is a postgraduate student of the Central Conservatory of Music in the class of 2024 and serves as the principal clarinetist of the Central Conservatory of Music Youth Symphony Orchestra. He began learning the clarinet at the age of 10, under the enlightenment of Zhou Gaoji, former director of the Art Committee of Gansu Long Opera House. In 2020, he was admitted to the undergraduate clarinet major of the Orchestral Department of the Central Conservatory of Music with the first place in his major. In 2023, he was recommended for admission to the postgraduate program of clarinet at the Central Conservatory of Music, studying under Wang Tao, a renowned clarinetist. During his studies at school, he also received guidance from Tao Chunxiao, a clarinetist and educator, Xi Weilong, a clarinet educator, as well as clarinetist Raphaël Sévère, Florent Héau (clarinet professor at CRR Paris), Andrew Marriner (former principal clarinetist of the London Symphony Orchestra), and Sang Yoon Kim (Korean clarinetist), all of whom highly praised him.

Da Hongyu has won numerous honors in the field of clarinet and achieved remarkable results. In 2017, he won the first place in the 1st Zhangye International Clarinet Competition; in 2018, he won the second prize in the 14th “Youth China Gansu Youth Talent Competition”; in 2019, he won the first place in the final of the “Yamaha Future Star National Clarinet Competition”. In July of the same year, he participated in the “Lanzhou International Clarinet and Saxophone Art Festival” and was invited to give a solo performance, which was highly praised by the judges. In 2020, he won the Excellence Award in the Professional Adult Group of the “National Clarinet Concerto Competition”; in January 2022, he won the first place in the Wind Music Adult Soloist Group of the “Alba International Music Festival Competition” in Italy; in October 2023, he won the first prize in the “Osaka International Music Competition”, and was recommended for admission to the postgraduate program of the Central Conservatory of Music in the same year due to his outstanding professional performance.Da Hongyu has rich performance experience and outstanding professional practical ability.

From June to July 2024, he was admitted to the Beijing Youth Symphony Orchestra and served as the deputy principal clarinetist, performing with conductor Lü Jia and pipa player Wu Man at the National Centre for the Performing Arts and Beijing Art Center. In early August, he went to the United States to participate in the first “WOW! World Youth Orchestra Week” activity. Under the leadership of conductor Lü Jia (Artistic Director of the National Centre for the Performing Arts), he performed at Carnegie Hall on behalf of Asia together with Chinese pipa player Wu Man, receiving unanimous praise.
