Shunmei Liu is currently studying clarinet at the Conservatoire de Versailles in France. She studies with Nicolas Baldeyrou, principal clarinet of the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France and professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Lyon, as well as Alexandre Chabod, principal clarinet of the Paris National Opera Orchestra. She also studies historical clarinet with Christian Laborie, clarinetist of Les Siècles.
She received her early musical training under Julien Chun-Yen Lai, associate principal clarinet of the Taipei Philharmonic Orchestra, professor at the Department of Music of National Taiwan Normal University, and prize winner of both the Lancelot International Clarinet Competition in France and the Ghent International Clarinet Competition in Belgium. She later continued her studies at the Paris Regional Conservatory (CRR de Paris), where she studied with renowned clarinetist Florent Héau and internationally acclaimed clarinetist and conductor Paul Meyer.
She has participated in numerous important musical activities, including the Clarinet Art Festival at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing and the Clarinet Art Week of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra. During her studies, she won First Prize at the First Buffet Crampon Clarinet Competition (Youth Category), First Prize at the S. Mercadante International Competition in Italy, and First Prize in the Cycle Supérieur category of the Picardie International Clarinet Competition in France.
During her studies in Paris, she also received guidance from Portuguese clarinetist Vitor Fernandes, First Prize winner of the Geneva International Music Competition, as well as French clarinetist Raphaël Sévère, further broadening her artistic vision and musical expression.
