Sergei Petrov comes from a family of musicians and has built a solid musical foundation since childhood. He started learning the recorder at the age of 6 in the class of his mother, Olga Smirnova. At the age of 8, he switched to the clarinet and began his studies in the class of his father, Sergei Petrov Sr.—a soloist of the Bolshoi Theater Orchestra of Russia—at the Balakirev Children’s Art School. At 14, he was admitted to the Central Music School Academy of Performing Arts, where he continued his professional training in the clarinet under the guidance of teacher Nikita Vaganov. Years of systematic learning and rigorous training have enabled him to develop excellent musical skills and outstanding artistic expression.
Sergei Petrov is an outstanding young clarinetist who has won numerous national and international competitions. He claimed the 3rd prize in the 2025 International Clarinet Competition Saverio Mercadante (Junior Soloist), the 1st prize in the 2024 All-Russian Competition-Festival “Clarinetino”, and the 3rd prize in the 2019 International Competition “Sonorum” held in Kaunas, Lithuania. In 2023, he won the 1st Absolute Prize in the St. Petersburg Open Competition for Instrumental and Chamber Performance under the V International Eurasian Festival “The Great Silk Road”. In 2025, he also won the 2nd prize in the VII All-Russian Competition of Young Musicians “Constellation” and the 1st prize in the VIII International Competition of Performers on Wind and Percussion Instruments “Northern Rhapsody”. In addition, he has repeatedly performed with the top orchestras in Russia, accumulating rich stage experience and showing excellent performance ability.
