Zhang Han began learning the clarinet at the age of 11, initially under the guidance of Teacher Zhou Gaoji, former Director of the Art Committee of Gansu Long Opera House and a National Second-Class Performer. Since the age of 17, he has been studying under Professor Wang Tao, a clarinetist, professor and doctoral supervisor at the Central Conservatory of Music. During this period, he also received guidance from Professor Tao Chunxiao, a renowned Chinese clarinetist and educator, Professor Sangji Dunzhu from the College of Music of Northwest Minzu University, renowned French clarinet master Pierre Génisson, and ARD champion Joë Christophe. In 2022, he was admitted to the undergraduate clarinet major in the Orchestral Department of the Central Conservatory of Music with excellent grades, and in 2025, he was admitted to the master’s program of the Central Conservatory of Music with excellent grades.
Zhang Han has won many honors in the clarinet field and has rich performance experience. In 2016, he won the Individual Silver Medal and Group Gold Medal at the Asian International Wind Music Competition held in Daejeon, South Korea. In 2019, he participated in the Lanzhou International Clarinet and Saxophone Art Festival and received unanimous praise from the judges, and won the fourth place in the Adult Group of the 1st Yamaha Cup National Clarinet Competition Lanzhou Division. In 2020, he won the Individual Gold Medal and Group Gold Medal at the 3rd Zhangye Gaotai Wind Music Art Week, and won the third place in the Non-Professional Youth Group of the National Clarinet Concerto Competition in the same year. In addition, he once served as an assistant teacher at Yuyue Clarinet Classroom, and has been invited to participate in various performances and cross-border activities, all of which have been highly recognized. He was also shortlisted for the Hosingen International Clarinet Competition and Osaka IMC in 2025.
